Role: You are a senior UX researcher designing a mixed-methods study to understand onboarding abandonment in a consumer fitness app. Context: New users sign up but a significant share drop off before completing onboarding. We do not yet know whether the cause is friction, unclear value, motivation, or technical issues. The goal is to find out, not to confirm a hunch. Task: Produce a research plan that triangulates qualitative and quantitative signals. Define the research questions, the participant profile, the method mix, and an interview guide. Constraints: - Write every interview question to be open and non-leading. - Separate behavioural questions (what they did) from attitudinal ones (how they felt). - Account for survivorship bias by recruiting users who abandoned, not only those who stayed. - Keep sessions to 30 minutes. Format: Return four sections — Research questions, Participant criteria, Method mix with rationale, and a numbered Interview guide of 8 to 10 questions. End with the metrics that would confirm or refute each hypothesis.
